Clean Technology Investment Tax Credit (CTITC)

The CTITC offers businesses a 30% tax credit on eligible commercial solar project costs, including equipment, installation, and permitting. The credit reduces federal income tax and can be carried forward if unused.

Requirements:

Solar for Non-Profits Pilot

What’s Offered:

Up to $15,000 in rebates for installing solar (PV) systems.

Who’s Eligible:

  • Non-profits or charities operating for at least 12 months
  • Must be registered with one of the following:
    • Nova Scotia Registry of Joint Stocks (society, co-op, or limited guarantee company)
    • Canada Revenue Agency (CRA-registered charity)
    • Corporations Canada (federally registered non-profit)


Rebate Details:

  • $0.60 per Watt (DC) of installed capacity
  • Covers up to 25% of eligible system costs (excluding HST)
  • Maximum rebate: $15,000


Eligible Costs:

  • All solar equipment and installation (excluding HST)


Ownership:

Organization must own the system (financing and lease-to-own are allowed)

Accelerated Investment Incentive

What is it?
A tax break that lets you write off more of your equipment cost in the first year, saving you money and improving cash flow.

Who Can Use It?

Any business owner who buys eligible equipment like:

  • Solar panels, inverters, batteries (clean energy equipment – Class 43.1 or 43.2)
  • Manufacturing or processing equipment (Class 53)

Equipment must be:

  • Bought after November 20, 2018
  • Installed and running before 2028


What You Need to Claim It:

  1. Proof of Purchase
    • Final invoice showing total installed cost
    • Breakdown of equipment, labour, design, etc.
    • Proof of payment (e.g. receipts, bank statement)
  2. Class Identification
    • A note that the equipment is in Class 43.1 or 43.2
    • Product specs or datasheets (for solar/battery gear)
  3. System Commissioning Date
    • Proof it’s installed and running (e.g. net metering approval)
  4. Ownership
    • You must own the system and use it for your business
    • You can’t claim if you bought it from a related party or through a tax rollover
  5. Tax Filing
    • Your accountant must include the right CCA schedule in your T2 tax return
